The
Swim: Sprint: .75 kilometers/.46
miles • SuperSprint: .375 kilometers/.23 miles) The
Swim start takes place on the south side of the boat launch ramp in
the water about 20 yards from shore. There will be lane markers, buoys
and a large team of lifeguards. The temperature of the water will
range between 62 and 66 degrees. Wetsuits are recommended.
The
Transition Area: Transition is located
on the north side of the South Shores Park parking lot, just
west of the permanent restrooms.
The
Bike: Sprint: 12.4
miles • SuperSprint: 6.2 miles
The
SuperSprint Bike Course takes place on paved roadways and
the surface is in good condition. Bike lanes are marked with cones,
signage and there will be course marshals to guide athletes throughout
the course.
After
leaving the Bike Out, cyclists turn right onto Mission Bay Parkway.
(BE CAREFUL – Cyclists beginning their second lap are
coming from the left to merge with bikes exiting the transition area
after a 50-meter divided merge lane). Cyclists make a 360
degree turn around a traffic island and proceed to SEA WORLD DRIVE.
Left on SEA WORLD DRIVE, MILE, left onto EAST MISSION BAY DRIVE, then
left again onto FIESTA ISLAND DRIVE. Stay right and make a complete
loop of FIESTA ISLAND. Cyclists exit the island and retrace their
path back to the Transition. Short distance cyclists re-enter the
transition area. The short distance course is 6.2 miles long.
The Sprint Distance Bike Course is longer and cyclists
complete a lap of the SuperSprint course and then proceed past the
transition area and merge with cyclists leaving the transition area.
They will then complete a second lap and re-enter the transition area.
The Sprint distance course is 12.4 miles.
The
Run: Sprint: 3 miles • SuperSprint:
1.58 miles
SUPERSPRINT
COURSE: Runners leave the transition area at
the SW corner, get onto the sidewalk and stay on the left on
the run course. Inbound and outbound runners share the sidewalk
for 1/3 mile where the outbound runners bear left around the
Gazebo. The next 1/3 of a mile is on well-packed dirt (watch
for the narrow path between two boulders at .7 mile), which
goes up a small rocky slope and north onto the sidewalk at
East Mission Bay Dr. The TURN-AROUND is just before Fiesta
Island Dr. at .8 of a mile. Runners then go south on the sidewalk
and then right onto the bike trail. The one-mile sign is 200
meters after getting on the bike trail. Follow the bike trail
back to the finish line, staying on the left. The Short course
is exactly 1.58 miles long.
SPRINT COURSE: Follow the same course as
the SuperSprint course, but approximately 100 meters before the
finish, look for the turn-around sign and TURN AROUND and
do the course again. The Sprint course is exactly 3.0 miles
long.
Note: The course is subject to change and distances are approximate.
A final course description will be available at the mandatory course
talk on Saturday, October 18th.
