EQUIPMENT
Please don’t forget your: a) ChampionChip Velcro band/timing chip, b) swim cap, c) swim goggles, d) bike helmet, e) running shoes, f) cycling shoes (optional), g) sun screen, h) towel, i) socks, j) water bottle and a great attitude.
RACE NUMBERS & BODY MARKING
- Your helmet number should be affixed to the front of your bike helmet.
- Your bike frame number (same style as the helmet number) must be affixed to the top tube or handle bar of your bike.
- Your race number should be pinned to whatever shirt you will be wearing on the run or to an elastic race number belt and visible.
- Make sure you are body marked (preferably at the MultiSport Experience or in transition). Body marking will be limited to shoulders, right calf and left calf.
TIMING
- The race is timed with the ChampionChip Electronic Timing System. Participants are required to wear a velcro band/chip at the ankle throughout the race.
- Relay team members must pass the band/chip at each transition. After you finish, turn in the band/chip at the end of the finish zone.
- If you pull out of the race, report to transition, turn in the band/chip & collect your gear before heading to the Party. There is a $30 charge for a lost band/chip.
THE SWIM
- The 1st wave starts at 7am (unless there's a weather delay) with 3-5 minutes between each wave.
- You have been assigned to a wave with no more than 75 women (based on your age group), and each wave is designated by a numbered sign (same number as on your right calf).
- The same color cap may be used for more than one wave.
- If you lost your cap, see a race official at the swim start and be sure to get correct color cap. Do not change waves. If you go off in the wrong wave, you may be disqualified.
- You should seed yourself according to your swimming ability (fast swimmers to the front within your wave). Please try to avoid striking or swimming over another swimmer(s).
- If the water temperature is 78 degrees or less, wetsuits are allowed. It is recommended that you wait until 5-10 minutes before the start of your wave to put on your suit. Keep the suit rolled down to your waist until just before you enter the water.
- No swimming aids (fins, kickboards, buoyancy devices) are allowed.
TRANSITION AREA
- Regardless of your wave, your bike and equipment must be in transition by 6:45am.
- Racks will be numbered by wave. You must return your bike to the same location in the racks.
- Rack your bike and make sure your gear is neatly laid out under your bike.
- You will not be able to pick up your equipment until the last participant is out on the run. Your equipment must be removed from transition by 11:00am. The event is not responsible for lost or stolen equipment. Be sure to bring along a bag (marked with your race number) for your gear.
- Only participants are allowed in the transition area, and a race number is required for access.
- ANSI, CPSC or SNELL approved helmet, buckled in place, is required for the cycling portion of the event. You will be prohibited from participating if you don't have an approved helmet (no refunds).
- You must walk your bike in the racks and walk or jog with your bike in the transition lanes to the designated mount & dismount areas at the perimeter of transition.
THE BIKE
- Although bike safety inspection is not mandatory, it is highly recommended that you have your bike checked no more than a month before the event.
- The bike leg takes place on Naperville roadways. In some locations you will be sharing the roads with vehicular traffic. In those instances, the bike and car lanes will be separated by orange traffic cones. Be sure to stay in your lane, ride to the right and always pass other cyclists on the left.
- There are caution areas on the bike course (transition and turns) where you are required to slow and ride single file. Race officials will be on hand to remind you to slow down.
- If you break down on the bike, please remove yourself and your bike from the course. There will be a van which circulates the course once the race is complete. If you need assistance getting back to transition, they will pick up you and your bike.
- Be sure you have a full water bottle on your bike.
THE RUN
- The run takes place on roadways and sidewalks to finish in the riverfront park. There may be an occasional spectator that wanders across the course. Keep your eyes open and use caution at the turns.
